| Vemod Rachel Worksop, Wondrous Stories (Points: 2 out of 10 for trying) Anekdoten are Nicklas Berg on Guitar and Mellotron, Jan Erik Liljestrom on Bass and Vox, Anna Sofi Dahlberg on Cello, Mellotron and Vox and Pete Nordin on Drums/Percussion. Track 1 is an instrumental with a silent movie type musical intro, it then breaks into heavy bass and guitars, and moves into an American cop spoof musical section and a slow thrash section. It tends to repeat itself. Drumming was quite good, not bad for a first track, full of surprises. Track 2 Guitar, bass and drums in start stop time sequence, most of this track sounds like it's being played backwards, sounds unpleasant, thick guitar sounds and cello, everything seem to stop when the vocalist begins to sing making it a little boring. Track 3 starts with heavy bass, good drumming and horror movie keyboard sound, sorry, bass sounds awful. It seems like the drummer is doing all the work on this track. Lyrics are good but they don't fit his voice or this style of music. The track then progresses into a tame jazz section and then back into scratchy guitar riffs but towards the end the guitar become quite melodic but still thick. Track 4 starts in a jazz style with clean subtle guitar, not bad for a slow track, a little boring. Track 5 strange but fascinating beginning with sampled sounds of children toys, voices and animals. Squeaky guitar (sounds like the person can't play), odd but good keyboards, time changeovers etc. Cello can be heard being played rather well for such low tones, then a mixture of keyboards and cello all sounding happier than when it started, lots of bass and not much guitar, it's very hard to keep up with this track. Track 6 is an instrumental. Ahh, at last a classical track and surprisingly enough nothing jumps out at you. Classical guitar played simple but well, cello and keyboards were in the back there too. A nice slow quiet but sad track. Track 7 everything starts at once, progressing rather quickly to a quirky odd timing section on guitar. The vocals on this track are quite good, the backing singers voice has been distorted in some way, not a bad effect, the track moves into a mix and mash of styles then in comes the cornet, played very well. The end of this track moves to a mono (old record) type finish. All in all I think the band are trying too hard, each track repeats itself over and contains some sort of slow thrash. The production was quite poor. Good try lads and lass but I don't think I'm ready for this yet! |
